Today was our virtual Pillars of Care Assembly for Humility! Congratulations to our December winners! This week we also had two caroling assemblies (virtual). Our class sang "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch." *In my previous post, you will see the link for our virtual winter concert. In Math at the end of this week, we continued working with symmetrical shapes. We had a fun drawing challenge to complete the other side of a snowflake. We also had fun with more Esti Mysteries--which use our logic, skip counting, and estimation skills. In Social Studies, we sorted the resource cards in groups again. This time, we tried to sort into Renewable and Non-Renewable resource categories. We had some great discussions about whether water is renewable or not (it is) and how we need to take care our natural resources and use them appropriately. Because of the cold temperature, we stayed in for recess and enjoyed body breaks, playing with blocks, a...
Hello families! My name is Mrs. Karr and I will be the Room 11 teacher until Mr. Fisher returns. I know this may be a difficult transition. Please know that I love teaching grade 4 and I am committed to supporting all students! This morning we had an "introduction to Mrs. Karr" slideshow where students guessed many things about me (my favourite colour, food, if I have any pets, children, etc.) What an observant class! The grade 4's were able to correctly guess many things about me. Each student had time to share what things they had in common with me, or things that were different. In Math, students showed me how they used cards or dice to represent multi-digit numbers in standard and expanded form as well as drawing base ten blocks. In the afternoon, we also played the Fraction Bingo game. In Language Arts, students explained to me what is happening in the novel "The Cats of Tanglewood Forest." We wrote a summary of the book so far....
This morning we had a virtual Remembrance Day assembly. Our class is awesome at singing "Highway of Heroes!" Here is a photo of our class wreath and all the other class wreaths. On the Wonder Wall is also some of our classmate's Art (the soldier picture). This morning we learned a new Math game. Students played Snowball 100 (mild), Snowball 200 (medium), or Snowball 300 (spicy). The game practiced our addition and subtraction skills. This afternoon, students had Phys Ed with me. Our bumping and setting skills are coming along! This week we have been discussing courage which is our virtue this month. The soldiers showed courage, but we can also have courage and show it in our everyday life. This week we did writing in L.A. about courage. Students wrote a reflection, a story, or an acrostic poem about courage. No school tomorrow (Thursday November 11) or Friday. Have a wonderful long weekend!
